Gores worked for two different PI agencies in San Francisco
under a veteran detectective named Dave Kikkert, LA Walker
and David Kikkert and Associates. His Dan Kearney character
is based on Kikkert, and his fictional "Daniel Kearney
Associates" based on the real-life DKA.
Gores's semi-autobiographical novel CASES also describes his
early years as a PI.
