Especially when the conference hotel rooms in Toronto cost
around $220. That's what has scared me off. I have only
attended one Bouchercon, 1996 in St. Paul, and really enjoyed
it. It was a last-minute decision, actually a couple of days
before, so I couldn't get into the conference hotel and
didn't have a banquet ticket. Don't think I missed much by
not attending the banquet, but I doubt if I would go again if
I couldn't stay in the hotel or one nearby.
If I change my mind this year and jump on a plane you can
count me in for food and beer at Rara-Avis get-together. And
Marianne and I can talk about the area of Winnipeg where we
grew up. I'm still here and she's in London. I will be there
briefly around Christmas and plan to do some book hunting on
Charing Cross Road. The budget only goes so far so I have
some tough choices.
