be honest, I also like and respect Jim Doherty's noir
definition, even though I don't think it quite gets the job
done. The hardboiled definition works fine for me but I,
obviously like many others here, see noir as a term more
complex than just dark and sinister.
It's great to be among a group that enjoys batting around the
nuances.
