I just finished his ouvre of 12 books fetauring Dave
Brandstetter. They stood on my shelf for a long time. When
you're hetero, you don't want to read about faggots. But
those are real good, hardboiled crime novels! I was
surprised, meself. The writing style is kind of Hemingwayisk,
the plots are not so bad, and you really get to like the
protagonist - Dave. A blurb on one of his books calls him
"ruggedly masculine and contentedly homosexuual". I thought
sometimes while reading that the books should have been
written in the *I*-mode - the first person. But the
homosexual viewpoint never got to me once. Surprise? Well -
yes.
