Kerry Schooley asks:
<<Hey, howcum there's no Noir Channel,
huh?>>
Turner Classic Movies goes through noir periods every now and
again. Some days you can get an eight-hour tape and copy four
or even five films.
Once, I was lucky enough to get all three versions of the
Maltese Falcon. It is interesting how each has a different
take. In one version,
"Satan Met a Lady," Bette Davis played the Bridget
O'Shaughnessy role. In a comic scene at the end Spade
promises to wait for her until she gets out of jail. You had
the feeling the Spade was totally tongue in cheek and that
Bridget would escape before she ever got to jail.
The Casper Gutman role was played by a chunky woman who must
have been in a hundred movies in the thirties and
forties.
