I've read both of these (in addition to THE GOODBYE LOOK, THE
WYCHERLY WOMAN, THE ZEBRA STRIPED HEARSE, and THE DROWNING
POOL, so far. I'm currently at work on THE WAY SOME PEOPLE
DIE, with BLACK MONEY, THE FAR SIDE OF THE DOLLAR, FIND A
VICTIM and SLEEPING BEAUTY still in the pile to be read
before I go get more). THE CHILL was the first one I read and
it was a great introduction to the series, as THE GALTON CASE
would also be. There's certainly nothing wrong with starting
at the beginning though, with THE DROWNING POOL (which was
adapted for the screen with Paul Newman playing Archer as a
much less intuitive fellow renamed "Harper" because of
Newman's run of good luck with characters with names
beginning with "H",
"Hud," etc.).
You're going to love this series wherever you start. Each
piece really stands alone very well!
All the Best,
Brian
