He should have used an original screenplay. And my main
point, as it's been all along, was that a filmmaker owes some
responsibility to the source material he's adapting. If he
has no respect for the material, and Altman didn't, he
shouldn't adapt it.

I like all sorts of "non-traditional" genre pieces. What I
don't like contemptuous insults to genres I happen to enjoy.
Both Altman's TLG and M&MM qualify.
