Wouldn't that be the other way round? Freeling's early books are set in Amsterdam (Van der Valk,). I taught Because of the Cats for a number of years, and corresponded with Freeling on a couple of occasions during the 80's. Who Are the Bugles Blowing For is another good one to read.
