I'd say MILDRED PIERCE, the book, is noir literature. Soap
Opera Noir, perhaps, but noir nonetheless, in that the Fickle
Finger of Fate diddles with everyone, and everyone seems to
be going to hell one way or another. The film, with the crime
tossed in, and its stylistic trappings, is even more
obviously noir.
