I think you could make a case that most, if not all, European
police procedural characters are heavily influenced by
Maigret in the same way that hard-boiled PI characters
following Marlowe are heavily influenced by Marlowe.
Take a look at Baantjer's Inspector DeDok (or DeCock in the
original Dutch editions) or Sjowall & Wahloo's Inspector
Beck, and you'll find more than a touch of Maigret in both of
them.
