I agree -- Robert "Kiss my lens, baby" Mongomery was
dreadful. Puffy, pasty, soft -- everything the Marlowe of the
novels isn't. And the gimmicky, self-conscious film didn't
help.
Garner at least looked the part. And he's a much better actor
than Montgomery. He might have worked in a better film -- one
perhaps actually set in the forties. As it was, MARLOWE just
came off as a little too 1960s-pseudo-groovy. And what was
Kato doing there? Was the Green Hornet sick that day?
