RARA-AVIS: God Is a Bullet: size counts

probably a SPOILER:

Al and Kevin were discussing the length of Teran's GOD IS A BULLET. Both Bill Crider and Terrill Lankford have mentioned publishers complaining about a book being too short. With this in mind, I wondered when I read GOD IS A BULLET if maybe the book had been stretched to please the publisher. I thought the book was rolling to a major showdown at the safehouse where Case and Bob dealt with one of the cult members and dug up a body and then torched the place. The book was great fun and I liked it a lot, but after that scene I lost a big chunk of the adrenaline rush and found the rest to be just a bit off-tempo and awkward. I wonder if Teran withdrew a major chunk of the climax from that scene and spread it out over an additional hundred pages.
