I remember Bill and others reading and commenting on George
Pelecanos' SOUL CIRCUS earlier in the spring. That, in part,
motivated me to give it a read. I wasn't disappointed. Maybe
the novel could've been shorter. I also miss the spontaneous
edgy moods found in his earlier books. (A FIRING OFFENSE, for
instance).
Bill mentioned, Jason Starr and Scott Phillips write in the
old Gold Medal vein (no pun intended). Now they'll go on my
TBR stacks.
BTW, speaking of Pelecanos and the musical references in his
writing, Noel Redding passed away this week. I'll have to
break out those Jimi Hendrix vinyls and give them another
listen.
