Well, the publisher (Avon?) certainly wanted you to judge the
books by their first page, they printed it on the cover. Of
course, it was one hell of a first page. I read it decades
ago, but I still remember it, especially the last line, "I
want you to kill me."
The first, Fletch, was great. Confess Fletch was still pretty
good, but they kind of went downhill from there. The
character stayed very enjoyable, but the plots seemed to get
less important.
