It seems to me that, in that same book, Pronzini devotes a chapter to the one book he regards as the single worst mystery novel ever written. I forget the title (was it DECOY, or am I confusing that with a Cleve Adams novel?), but the reason I bring it up in this thread is that the detective-hero is a movie-stuntman, something of a precursor to a character Lee Majors played on TV in a series that must have been about as forgettable as the novel because I can't remember its title either.
