RARA-AVIS: The Marlowe Paradigm

At the end of a long and interesting post Jim Doherty said:

>>>But, while all these writers took their
characters in different directions, they were all clearly influenced by Chandler. Which is all I was saying.<<<

And right you are, Jim.

Any PI writer not influenced by Chandler never read him, but was probably influenced by imitators.

That said: Didn't Sam Spade follow the same paradigm? Did Chandler adapt from the Continetal OP and then Hammett adapt Sam Spade from Chandler's Black Mask work?

The previous paragraph is not a statement or an opinion, but a question.
