Miker, In addition to reading the Crime Novels LOA
collection, I've been slowly making my way through THE BLASK
MASK BOYS. It's a really excellent compendium of the
historical background of the magazine as well as interesting
biographical and bibliographical info on each of the authors
chosen. There are 8 authors represented with stories in the
book:
"Three Gun Terry" by Carroll John Daly (May, 1923)
"Bodies Piled Up" by Dashiell Hammett (December, 1923)
"Hell's Kettle" by Erle Stanley Gardner (June, 1930)
"Sal the Dude" by Raoul Whitfield (October, 1929)
"Rough Justice" by Frederick Nebel (November, 1930)
"Frost Flies Alone" by Horace McCoy (March, 1930)
"Gundown" by Paul Cain (June, 1933)
"Blackmailers Don't Shoot" by Raymond Chandler (December,
1930)
I'm still ploughing through it, but so far editor William F.
Nolan seems to have done an outstanding job of researching
information on the magazine and some of it's main
contributors. Hope this answers your question about the dates
of the stories. There's a list of each author's complete
publication history in the magazine at the end of each story.
Hope you enjoy it, Steven Harbin
