Al Guthrie gives some 1940's recommendations...

************ Thanks for you comments, Al! I haven't even read them yet, but I will. What I wanted to mention is that I'm right now reading a couple that I think you recommended, Homes's BUILD MY GALLOWS HIGH and Kersh's PRELUDE TO A CERTAIN MIDNIGHT. I'm well into the Kersh one and it's pretty offbeat, but I'm loving it. Strange bizarre characters that sorta remind me of Nathanael West's stuff. The Homes's book I just started.

On another note, I saw Red Dragon today. I expected a lot because I absolutely loved Hannibal and Silence of the Lambs, but it was a disappoint- ment. It wasn't nearly as good as the first adaptation (Manhunt or Manhunter?).

Thanks, miker
