For my nickle (again) Dick Contino's Blues, a nice, snug
novella that has been anthologized and appeared in an
interesting crime issue of Granta some years back. If you
like that, kick things up a notch to White Jazz. I'm going to
go out on a limb and suggest My Dark Places might mainly be
of interest if you dig the fiction.
On the subject of non-fiction, I've just finished an
informative book called Wages of Crime, Black Markets,
Illegal Finance, and the Underworld Economy by R.T. Naylor.
He's an economist at McGill University. Book's a dry but
refreshing look at the finances of "organized" crime and
terrorist
"networks". No profanity, but still not for those who believe
the six o'clock news.
