Just about the time I was reading posts earlier today
regarding the miniseries made from Hammett's THE DAIN CURSE,
the star of that miniseries, James Coburn was dying of a
heart attack at home in L.A.
Coburn was a wonderfully charismatic actor and though the tv
version of DAIN didn't quite cut it as Hammett, I thought
Coburn was quite good in it and would have enjoyed seeing him
take a serious move in the hardboiled direction in films.
That said, he's plenty hardboiled in many, though I can't
think offhand of any that are particularly crime
stories.
RIP
