...even the setting of the book is '50s, not 30s. I'll be brief. I've just been wow'ed by Ellroy yet again - White Jazz. My growing enthusiasm for the man seems pretty unlikely. I am no sadist. But he is SUCH a skillful writer, incomprehensible patois or not.

Bother. Out to the bookshop.
