RARA-AVIS: Anglo-Welsh hardboiled

I've just learned that a friend has begun a graduate degree program in Anglo-Welsh literature. I thought with all the BritNoir I read in the last few months, I'd have some titles and authors to recommend, but I don't. Does anyone have suggestions?
