the film way too much a Billy Zane vanity project, too timid

John Lau comments on the stunning color cinematography of
Thompson's _This world, then..._. That's by Bill Pope, a
master photographer. The movie is so-so, but the photography
is art. Come to think of it, the Thompson novel is pretty
bad. Let's not blame the screenwriter.
