An observation and a question:
I related to THE CATCHER IN THE RYE as "of my time," whatever
that was and "Lonigan" as merely interesting--the first
volume anyhow.
To the best of my recollection there was a lot of depression
(as well as depressing) stuff in STUDS LONIGAN.
I now see people bringing up STUDS LONIGAN and I have been
thinking about it: Was STUDS LONIGAN the coming-of-age novel
for an older generation?
I am not trying to call "Catcher" hardboiled or noir, just
thinking about the comparison.
