MrT said about BACKWOODS TEASER: Some of Brewer's work is
less than fabulous*. I don't recall this particular title,
but I would wait until the walking encyclopedias of Rara-Avis
give it the nod. He could get campy, feverish, even drippy,
and some of his plots are even more ridiculous than
Thompson's worst ones
(e.g. The Golden Gizmo). In any case, he's definitely
noir.
The title Backwoods Teaser sounds pretty racy. Actually,
Brewer wrote great sex scenes. He knew how to create sexual
tension. I don't know of any goldmedalist that surpasses him
in this area. Which goes to show that every Gold Medal has
something of value.
****************** I went back thru the archives and found
several recommended titles by Brewer: PLAY IT HARD, THREE-WAY
SPLIT, GIRL FROM HATEVILLE, A KILLER IS LOOSE, and WILD. I
bought WILD. I skipped BACKWOODS TEASER. I now know why Peter
Rabe ended up with such terrible titles... Brewer took all
the good ones.
