DEADLY WELCOME is one of the non-series novels that I just
read. It's a pretty good story about the small-town guy going
home again with a mission. He winds up solving a murder and
(naturally) falling in love. The villain in this one is
great, worthy of the McGee books, but there's a bit too much
of that sappy dialogue between the man and woman that drives
some people up the wall. I'm not sure anyone every talked
like that, even in the 1950s.
(I'm cheating here, since this was originally published as a
Dell First Edition and then reprinted as a Gold Medal.)
