I was going through a pile of old newspapers when I found a
book review that began:
"The lean, seedy noir novel is, by common acclamation, in the
midst of a renaissance. Practitioners such as James Ellroy,
Vicki Ellis, Elmore Leonard and George P. Pelecanos have
refined the streamlined style, unsentimental wit and urban
menace of this classic 1940s genre, while updating its
content to address a host of contemporary issues, from child
abuse to cult religions to racist violence and political
assassination."
I've never heard of Vicki Ellis. What has she written? Is she
as good as this statement implies?
