Belatedly joining the anthologies discussion, I'm curious.
How does one go about putting together an anthology? Do the
editors simply choose stories they like and then go around
seeking permission to include, or does the publisher deal
with permissions, and how are royalties handled? It
seems
(from the outside, at least) like an easy way to publish a
book: find a bunch of stories you like and shove 'em between
covers. Who stands to gain more, the editors or the
collective original writers? (Financially speaking.)
