line. The tone and wit shine through even in this second-hand

Jeeze, the reactions of Bill Crider and others make me think
this accusation has been made before against Parker. At least
the allegation isn't that he was swiping from Chandler or
Hammett.
And Bill, thanks for reminding me of the Avallone title HIGH
NOON AT MIDNIGHT. He saved his best title for his best
novel.
