WHOA....someone's venturing into the "sacred cow" territory
discussed a few months back. Look out, Joe.
Connelly is a favorite of mine but, like you, I did not enjoy
the first book of his I read (TRUNK MUSIC) all that much.
I've since learned that any of his books featuring Bosch work
better the more familiar one is with Connelly's entire
catalogue. If you want to give him another chance, I would
recommend reading any of the first three Bosch books - though
it's not the first in the series, THE CONCRET BLONDE seems
like the perfect introduction to Bosch. Otherwise, you might
consider the THE POET, which is a stand alone.
If you give one of those a shot sometime down the road, I'd
be interested to hear your thoughts.
Chris
