A couple of hitman characters that haven't been mentioned
yet:
There's one in the standalone A Line of Fire by Donald
Hamilton.
Triumph of Evil, the second book Block wrote as Paul Kavanugh
is also about an assassin.
Oh yeah, not exactly hardboiled, though it has its moments,
Pest Control by Bill Fitzhugh, about an exterminator who gets
mistaken for an EXTERMINATOR, and through no fault of his
own, and without his awareness, finds himself rising in the
international rankings. Nice suspense and absolutely
hilarious. Highly recommended.
