Recent talk of Apocalypse Now made me wonder about the other Marlowe-- Conrad's Marlow, of _Heart of Darkness_ and _Lord Jim_ fame. Certainly belongs on someone's top hardboiled list... So I checked my copy of
_Heart_. Pub date 1899!

Oh, well.
