Wayne rejected his "upper class" status and used it as a
cover. As Batman he became a tough and straight talking bird
(There's that word again.).
Same thing seemed true to me with
Simon Templar who was an upper class dandy until he donned
his street persona of "The Shadow." On the prowl he would
have made out all right as a "pulp" hero.
