Of course it does. I drew a
distinction where there is none. Thrashing about in
alcoholism is no more demon driven than embracing abuse at
the hands of others. I still believe that the hard-boiled
tradition excludes characters who give themselves over to the
abuse of others, but I rode the wrong horse as I tried to
make my point.
