>How about children's literature?
May I recommend a strategic Rara-Avian withdrawal, leaving
this can of worms unopened? Children's literature has always
been very hb/noir, thanks to its roots in the fairy tale,
grizzly stories of Christian martyrdom, 18th-19th century
moral instruction - whatever. It is crowded with wonderful
stuff which leaves Harry Potter looking like the cozy comedy
that it is.
Now Alice in Wonderland, for example ...
(for godsake don't get her started, they screamed).
