Good point. Unless of course, they are close enough (Why
mention Scherlock Holmes and not watson ?) Besides, well,
some characters in Tom Waits and Nick Cave's songs (Like
Cave's "O'Malley's bar" or "Stagger Lee") are pretty much
hardboiled, but we won't go so far, won't we ? :)
I definitely second Ed Coffin and Gravedigger Jones, Hannibal
Lecter ‹ but adds the detective from Red Dragon, whose name
eludes me at the moment, AND Clarisse Sterling, one of the
strongest character in, let's say, crime fiction in general.
But my top-number-one-el-besto remains Matt Scudder.
AndŠ I think nobody mentioned Carlotta Carslyle, from Linda
Barne's series ?
