Martha:
On the subject of hardboiled SF, I read a book a few years
back called GUN, WITH OCCASIONAL MUSIC by Jonathan Lethem.
It's a sci-fi / mystery novel set in Oakland with a
Chandleresque private eye named Conrad Metcalf. I enjoyed the
book a lot and recommend it. Some of Lethem's other stuff
hasn't exactly set my world on fire, though I'm about to try
another detective piece by him, MOTHERLESS BROOKLYN.
