I think you may be right. I see that there's a title MOVING
TARGETS from 1988, which is about the right time frame (I
remember that I read it in the army). You would think that
I'd remember a guy named Nebraska before remembering a word
his girlfriend's name rhymed with, but who knows?
On the other hand, Mark suggested that it might be a guy
named Mallory, who also sounds familiar to me. A quick bn.com
check does't list any titles that ring a bell, but I didn't
realize what a prolific writer Collins is.
