Two good mystery bookstores in Los Angeles come to mind. The
first is Mystery Bookstore at 1036-C Broxton Avenue, in the
center of Westwood Village, just to the south of UCLA. They
have a terrific selection of mysteries, including many first
editions. My friends and I are all preparing to head there
for George Pelecanos' signing next month. Another favorite is
Mystery Pier Bookstore, off Sunset Avenue in West Hollywood.
It's a bit hard to find (one must squeeze down a narrow
alleyway to a hidden cottage) but well worth the search.
Inside are hundreds of first edition mysteries and sci-fi
novels. The owner's son, Louie, is helpful and quirky.
