The way I understood it, the brothers took the story idea and
went in separate directions, Christopher Nolan turning it
into a film and Jonathan Nolan turning it into a story. I
think I read or heard this somewhere, along with the tidbit
that it took both of them about the same amount of time to
create their respective projects.
