RARA-AVIS: Re: Sallis' Death Will Have Your Eyes

Frankie, I really enjoyed James Sallis' DEATH WILL HAVE YOUR EYES but then I've been a fan of his since reading his science fiction stories in magazines like Galaxy thiry years ago. He popped up next in my nonfiction reading with his excellent 1984 THE GUITAR PLAYERS.

Bill Crider mentioned Donald Hamilton and I see that but DEATH also reminded me of Graham Greene and Barry Gifford's PORT TROPIQUE. Is Sallis playing with the form? Sure, he always does. But for me at least, it does not cross the line and become precious.
