Benicio Del Toro's portrayal of Officer Javier Rodriguez is
excellent and is the most hardboiled character to be found in
contemporary film. It's too bad you can't shut the rest of
the movie off and just watch is role.

I liked the (Latin hard-boiled?) Mexican plot in Soderbergh's "Traffic" and the scenes of teenage junkies were well-done, but I thought the rest of it fell flat; overall it ended up being smug and self-congratulatory instead of provocative.
