Legend has it that Howard Hawks bragged to Hemingway that he
could make a good movie out of Hemingway's worst book.
Hemingway told him to give it a try with To Have and Have
Not. Hawks made the movie, but it doesn't really have much to
do with the book. William Faulkner worked on the
screenplay.
