There was an article in on Miles as a pimp and the pimp aesthetic: http://www.nytimes.com/2001/05/13/arts/13KELL.html

The article is by Robin Kelley - the author and professor at NYU. The focus was more on the pimp aesthetic than whether he actually pimped or not.
