In a very interesting post, Kerry noted:
". . . the American attempt to outrun corruption by lighting
out for the territories in hope of finding a fresh, clean
place to begin again."
This is definitely a major part of the American mythos,
especially the Western. So why wouldn't it also influence its
heir, the PI novel?
As Horace Greeley put it: "Go West Young Man."
Or to phrase it more hardboiled, as Davey Crockett put it
upon losing his last election: "Go to Hell. I'm going to
Texas." The California of its day?
