I don't know if any of Marijane Meaker's Vin Packer books was
PI, though I have one of her crime novels waiting for me to
dip into at home (I suspect not, looks more like a PEYTON
PLACE done Gold Medal style), so that was more a matter of
proximity (since Meaker was, iirc, editing for Gold Medal).
Daisy Bacon was editor of DETECTIVE STORY MAGAZINE and its
offshoots in the
'40s, and I have the faint impression she also worked at
Popular, whether beforehand with BLACK MASK, or after, when
S&S sold DSM to Popular at the turn of the '50s.
Thanks for the recs on the novels, Juri...I think you'd be
not disappointed by Paretsky's medium-boiled nor by Muller's
socially-conscious realism...or, of course, her collabs with
her husband. TM

Never heard of Daisy Bacon, who she? And did Vin Packer ever
write PI books?
