The first book I ever read by Burke, nearly 30 years ago (yes, I still have the book), was LAY DOWN MY SWORD AND SHIELD. It was about some guy named Hack Holland, who's probably related to Burke's current Texas series, and it was set in Texas. At the time, I assumed Burke was a Texan. But maybe he's not.
