When Bill D. sends out a call, we should all dig in our piles
of read (ignoring the higher piles of unread) for some
answer.
I don't notice any mention of K.C, Constantine in this
thread. Can there be any more doggedly dedicated workaholic
than Mario Balzic, Rocksburg's finest? Painfully--sometimes
tediously--spending his energies on people who often don't
seem worth it. Keeping a community from imploding, while
helping the most murderous ease out of their guilty
anonymousness. I don't have a passage--it's been too
long--but the man's life in novel after novel is a
testimony.
Switchin' to the other end of the States, haven't seen
mention of James Sallis' fine work ethic here either. Harder
to find, but:
"With the work I did, how I lived, there's no way I was going
to keep regular hours. I didn't keep hours at all. they just
loomed around me and passed by like Carnival floats. But my
course through the days and nights had zigzagged a lot worse
than usual that past week or so, and maybe it was starting to
wear me down." (Black Hornet)
Oh yeah, hi Mario. Good to have you back in voice.
