Jerome Charyn Certainly one of the original voices in the HB/Noir novels of the 80's. His cycle with his NY cop Isaac Sidel is probably the best place to discover him. However be warned that Charyn's novels are slightly offbeat, full of latent humor and warped reality (but not as extreme as Marc Behm). And Charyn is a master in managing his own universe! An unjustly forgotten author in the USA.

If you can find them go for: BLUE EYES MARILYN THE WILD THE EDUCATION OF PATRICK SILVER

which are the first 3 Sidel novels.
