For what it's worth, I seem to remember reading somewhere (an
interview? a review? an intro to one of the other books?)
that Penzler knew his wasn't the first official publication
of "Hot Springs," but that he felt he could justify it in the
collection because so few people would have had access to it
before.
I think, in the same piece, he mentioned that "Hot Springs"
should be considered the exception, not the rule.
But, first printing, or reprint, who cares? It's still a good
story. I mean, gimme a good reprint over a first edition of
crap any day.
